Week 1 at Home MTC

Hello everyone, this is my first missionary email home so forgive me if it's worded a little funny. As my spanish is getting better, my english gets a little worse, so it'll be interesting to see what my english will look like at the end of the 6 week training period, as well as later in my mission. 


So I've been doing online training for the past week and I'll be doing online training next week as well. May 30th or 31st I will fly down to the Mexico City MTC to continue my training for another 4 weeks, and after that I will fly down to serve in the Guatemala City area until May 2024. I've already learned so much spanish and I can confidently say that there is no way that I could have learned so much so quickly without the spirit and the power of God. The Gift of Tongues (el don de Lenguas) has clearly been made manifest unto me and I'm so grateful to my Heavenly Father, (Padre Celestial) my teachers at the MTC, (Hermana Ganzolez y Hermano Mora) my fellow missionaries within my district (Elders Friend, (my wonderful companion) Lloyd, and Simonsen, and Hermanas Call, Fifita, Goodcell, and Terry), as well as my family, especially my mothers.

I'm so excited to continue studying spanish as well as the many resources aiding in my journey to become a successful missionary.

I know I look upset here but I promise I'm just tired. 9 hours of zoom classes can do that.

  February 8, 2023 This email is going to be a little bit different this week. I've been writing emails every week and that's really been my journal writing, and this week I want to express some thoughts and feelings that are a little more personal. #1 is that I no longer enjoy speaking just English or Spanish, my preferred language is Spanglish. When I'm tired after a long day I revert to thinking in mostly Spanish - Spanglish. #2 is that these past 2 weeks have been harder. We've had some of the best lessons I've had in the mission and when I'm outside I have energy and enthusiasm and I really enjoy what I'm doing. But whenever I'm in the apartment, I have a lack-luster motivation, no energy, and little to no motivation, especially in terms of getting out of bed. Week 55: 11 Months Left

May 31, 2023 Sorry I haven't written in so long. These past two months have been... interesting... to say the least. We've been grinding through being sick these past two months, little to no interest from the majority of people here, stress, anxiety, depression, losing focus, etc. Despite everything, we've only stayed for like 4 days this transfer, we still joked and laughed through everything going on, and despite literally all odds, we hosted a wedding, and right after, two baptisms. Now we have tons of references, we're not sick anymore, and the stress, anxiety, etc. I don't feel it anymore. These two months have been the absolute most difficult I've had in the mission, but this time has also been the greatest blessing I've received, and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Week 36-38: Return of the Email

February 1, 2023 Return of the Email. I'm back.  We've been busy and I've been especially tired, but here we are again. Week 36: Ok, we worked hard this week finding people to teach and preparing little Carlos for his baptism. Week 37: We found a good number of people that we can move forward with, AND... Carlos got baptized!!!  . He's the first person that I've taught start to finish and had the opportunity to baptize, so that was super awesome and exciting. Week 38: On Sunday everyone in stinking Guatemala got sick. Not literally, but almost everyone in our area had a cold this past week, us included, so we still went out and worked but we took it a little easier so we could recuperate quickly. Also, we got transfer news... we're both staying here. So that's super awesome because there's a lot of work to do. Also for pday, we went to a rich area in the city in taxi.
